SDA Solution for Becta

Web service to the DfE's national pupil database (NPD)

In 2009 Software for Data Analysis delivered a web-based interface to the National Pupil Database for Becta. The project had particularly demanding requirements and involved close working with Becta and their contractor (Capita).

The website enabled Becta to validate applications for the Home Access grant. This DCSF funded scheme provides grants to reduce the ‘digital divide’: pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds can apply for a grant towards the purchase of a laptop with broadband subscription. Application forms received from parents/guardians are checked against the School Census records for the pupil.

Becta project oversight included detailed inspection of all aspects of our provision of this service including dual data centre provision and testing of our service contingency including simulating of data centre failure and to a demanding timescale.
