About SDA

Who we are and our history of success

SDA are based at London Bridge near Borough Market in the heart of London.

SDA are software engineers, ex clvil servants (Ofsted and Department for Education), an ex Ofsted inspector, business analysts, statisticians, and educational consultants. Our interesting mix of individuals brings diversity and a wealth of alternative views.

We design and code tools to deliver particular things. A tool to create questionnaires, another to produce personalised reports and another for something else. Our tools are compatible and can be used together to deliver a wide range of solutions.

We control our tools so we can enhance them when we choose to meet changing customer requirements. For example, we enhanced our questionnaire tool to provide a GOV.UK Government Digital Service (GDS) look and feel. This brings the benefits of a mobile responsive design to all our clients - not just our government clients.

We have many tools in our toolbox, they are excellent tools and we know how to use them.

SDA believe in standards and open data. We have used open source software since 1994.

Why haven't I heard of SDA before?

You may already have used one of SDA's solutions without realising it was provided by us!

Much of the work delivered by SDA since 1994 has been unbranded. How would you know it was us - well you probably wouldn't.

So if you are a parent, or teacher, who has used the Performance Tables paper booklets, or digital PDF reports or online DfE website then we helped deliver these between 1993 and 2016.

If you were a school or Ofsted Inspector who used a pre-inspection context and school indicator report (PICSI) then this was produced by SDA.

Ofsted also provided schools with an annual school performance and assessment report (PANDA). This helped schools to analyse their results and evaluate their performance and included contextual and performance indicators. Again these were produced by SDA between 1997 and 2006 and securely distributed to schools and Local Authorities through the ePANDA web portal between 2000 and 2006 (also designed and managed by SDA).

If you were a RAISEonline user who made use of Excel data then some of those Excel files were produced by SDA.

If as a school you used the online data collection systems Forms S1-S4, Self-Evaluation Form Pilot or Self-Evaluation Form then these too were designed and delivered by SDA as a managed service to Ofsted.

If you are a Local Authority or school who has accessed DfE's Key to Success to obtain a wide variety of sensitive pupil data then that system was designed and provided as a fully managed service up until 2016.

If you are a researcher using data from the Longitudinal Study of Young People in England (LSYPE), also known as Next Steps, and used the online interactive LSYPE system (iLSYPE) then that was us too.

Just a small part of our story.

  • Client Feedback

"I just wanted now to write more formally to thank you personally for your invaluable help in bringing the project to a successful conclusion.

You are making a habit of stepping in to save the Department's bacon when it has run into difficulties - first student loans, now performance tables. For our own peace of mind I hope we do not have too many more crises of this kind, but it is a great comfort to know that we can call on your ingenuity and high professional skills when the going gets tough.

    Very many thanks once again."

    Yours sincerely
